About Kuhan Chandru
Kuhan is a researcher specializing in prebiotic chemistry within the field of Astrobiology. He is currently a tenured research fellow at the National University of Malaysia (UKM)(2018-present) and a Humboldt (experienced) Fellow at the University of Duisburg-Essen (2024-2025). Previously, he was recruited as a research scientist at the Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (2014-2017) and was a research fellow at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (2018-2020).
Kuhan earned his first degree in marine biology from the University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). He then completed an MSc in environmental organic geochemistry at the University Putra Malaysia (UPM). In 2010, he received a Japanese government-sponsored (Monbukagakusho) scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in advanced material chemistry with a focus on prebiotic chemistry at Yokohama National University.
